Why it matters

A learner result tells a school something is wrong. It rarely tells them why.

The same low belonging score can come from a missing structure, an unclear referral route, a stretched staff body, or a classroom practice nobody has named. Staff is the only lens pointed at the adults, and it is what makes the learner results readable.

staff-level conditions, answered anonymously, describing the structures adults work inside.

very different causes can sit behind the same low learner score. Staff is what tells them apart.

individual-level reporting. Staff is not an appraisal instrument and must never be used as one.

About the system

Conditions,
not competencies.

Staff answer anonymously once a year. Nine conditions are banded at school level, with item-level detail underneath, so leadership can see the specific structure that is missing rather than a low number with no address.

  • Nine staff-level conditions covering capacity, culture, conditions and practice
  • Item-level detail beneath every banded condition
  • School-level reporting only, with no individual identification
  • Read beside the learner instruments to tell four causes apart

How it works

A clear, structured process

  1. 1

    Anonymous census

All teaching and pastoral staff answer once a year, with no identifying fields attached to a response.

  2. 2

    Conditions banded

Nine conditions are scored and banded at school level across capacity, culture, conditions and practice.

  3. 3

    Items surfaced

Beneath each band, the specific items driving it are shown, naming the structure that is missing.

  4. 4

    Read against learners

Staff results are read beside Wellbeing, Upstander and Thrive to separate adult conditions from learner experience.

  5. 5

    Structures fixed

The paired development programme turns each item into a structural decision, sequenced across a term.

Why it's different

Built to name the structure, not the person.

It points at the adults, not the child

Every other lens asks a learner what school is like. Staff asks what the adults are working inside, because a learner result cannot be interpreted without it.

Item-level, not score-level

A low aggregate is a discussion. A named missing structure is a decision. Staff always shows the items behind a band.

It is not an appraisal instrument

Responses are anonymous and results are never reported at a level that identifies an individual. Using Staff for performance management breaks the instrument.

It disambiguates the learner data

The same low learner score can be a capacity problem, a clarity problem, a practice problem or a genuine learner-experience problem. Read together, the two sides tell them apart.

What schools gain

What changes when the adults are asked too.

School-level condition profiles, banded, with item-level detail underneath
A reading of the learner results that accounts for the adult conditions
A basis for structural decisions, not individual conversations
A safe, anonymous channel for staff to name what is missing
A sequenced set of fixes rather than a list of complaints
Year-on-year movement in the conditions around every learner

Paired curriculum

A paired staff development programme written to the same nine conditions, so a missing structure becomes a decision rather than a discussion.

  • Short leadership modules mapped to each of the nine conditions
  • Item-level prompts that name the specific structure to put in place
  • Guidance on sequencing structural fixes across a term, not all at once
  • Facilitation notes for reading Staff results beside the learner instruments

The programme addresses conditions, not competencies. It is never used to assess or appraise an individual staff member.
